I was asked by a Chicago Sushi Restaurant for my vision of 'Ikebana'.
This offering, is one vision, reflecting the Cherry blossoms themselves.
Japanese handmade Washi papers are gossamer thin and delicately painted with acrylics to create a visually weightless image.
My colors are mixed using a mixing technique originating from the ancient Monks to portray the 'Blush' of their much-venerated Cherry Blossoms.
Entire painting is coated with clear acrylics to protect from UVs.
Jan's Artwork honors the Traditional and promotes the sustainability of the Region's Lifestyle of those wonderful people that have been creating Washi for over 20 Generations!
In Japan Washi (wa-meaning Japanese and shi -meaning paper) is an art form in itself so...I create art with art.
